opening ceremony II: costumes.

about the march of countries.

to tell the truth...this is what makes the Opening Ceremony so long. 204 countries and their athletes all need to be introduced. And then have the nerve to take a lap around the stadium as if it isnt 11pm at night in some parts of the world.

2 points of distraction.

1. Despite contrary opinions on the effectiveness of program coverage, I watched NBC. I dont know if anyone else was watching this lovely and long program on nbc, but when the march of countries occurred (close to the beginning), one of the nbc co-hosts referred to the on screen outfits as "costumes." Not....traditional garb.....not ethnic wear......but "costumes". A very poor choice of words. I don't want to say that I was offended. But, I was.
End of story.

2. While some people have fashion opinions about all 204 of the standard country "costumes."  And the same here.  And here. And here. And others have  very strong opinions about their own countries "costumes."  And yet others have opinions about sucked ice pops.

The thing I want to bring to light is this......

America's coming out "costume".
Holy Douchebag McPrepschool-I-own-a-horse-and-my-daddy-has-a-yacht III.
Navy Blazers. Striped Ascots/Ties and white pants.
Really?
The host also called these hats "berets". But what they clearly are,....are Kangol hats. KANGOL. Im mean......1994...anyone? Kriss Kross and LL Cool J? Dukie Braids and Bamboo earings
Except its 2008. Really, no one wears Kangol except crackheads and pimps and unfashionably hip  dads.
This picture....is just adorable. NBA stars do care about each other.

Who gave Ralph Lauren creative control? Now we are not only the lazy fat Americans who invade countries and stick their noses in everyone's business. We are lazy fat Americans who invade countries and stick their noses in everyone's business who also happen to now be internationally known as pompous douchebags.

If it walks like a duck and looks like a duck.....

I like the way you described things on your blog. I noticed that they referred the outfits as costumes as well.. a lot of African themed costumes going on there. And the Americans look like private school boys that enjoys horse riding after their afternoon tea type of deal
