not just another day.

"At 6:01 p.m. on April 4, 1968, a shot rang out. Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr., who had been standing on the balcony of his room at the
Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN, now lay sprawled on the balcony's floor. A gaping
wound covered a large portion of his jaw and neck. A great man who had spent
thirteen years of his life dedicating himself to nonviolent protest had been
felled by a sniper's bullet. "
continue the story here.

Its easy in this day in age to forget about our past. About the people who gave up so much for us. With the travesties of today's inequalities looking use in the face daily, the past seems but a story, as far away as Africa itself. It's hard to defend your ethnicity in a world that doesn't understand it. A world whose ignorance keeps you from being yourself and simultaneously forces you to defend every word you say, every piece of clothing you wear and even the type of music you listen too. Its unjust to have to live in a world where success means being the only person of color in your neighborhood or being the one of two black people who go to your gym. But this is a world that is changing....it is getting better. And we need to be thankful for it.

So, I am sorry for breaking up the funny/lighthearted stuff I always try to write about here in the bloggy blog, but occasionally, I try to do the right thing.

I need to get myself one of those sweet Fadora hats.
