ive decided -now that I have a grown up job (knock on wood), I am going to have to proclaim some grown up aspirations. And the first thing on my list is to get a very serious girlfriend. Not to say that all my past ones haven't been serious, but now that Im turning 24 and my best years are behind me and lets face it, Im not getting any younger-but perhaps richer and better looking, its time for me to get my life together. So...here are a few letters to my future very serious girlfriend and perhaps her cohorts.
Dear Future Very Serious Girlfriend,
Please be interesting. I'm easily bored. I am also schizoprhenic. I am stubborn and I like cartoons and dragons. I'm really bad at doing the dishes. My idea of a good Friday night involves a very large bottle of red wine and a dramatic showtime series on-demand. I cannot be your jock boyfriend. I am not romantic, but I will always make you smile...so have a nice smile. And dress better than me. Also, I don't plan on getting married until after im 27. We can dicuss this, but for the most part discussion in pointless.
Hope to meet you soon.
Shaun
Dear Future Very Serious Girlfriend's Dad,
I will not be able to help you construct your back yard shed, fix a Leakey pipe or bbq (this out of laziness). But I can call someone to come over and fix it for you. I have spurts of the manly competitive nature, I promise- you'll probably never see them. If I was a Disney prince that swept your daughter off her feet, id be the Hunchback of Noter Dam. We will probably butt heads...but in the end, you will atleast kinda like me.
Cheers,
Shaun
Dear Future Very Serious Girlfriend's Mom,
You will love me.
Seeya Real soon,
Shaun
Dear Future Very Serious Girlfriend's Friends,
I will try very hard to leave a good first impression on you. But after that, I could give a flying f*ck. Either you like me or you dont. I've seen Sex and the City. I know how girls talk about their significant other when they aren't around. Here's the deal, if you don't like me, I'll buy you a martini if you just shut your face.
It was nice doing business with you,
Shaun
I think thats it. If I am missing anyone, you guys should let me know. I'm about to be on the summertime prowl. And by prowl, I mean doing what I normally do....which isnt much. Oh...a disclaimer....There are just a few forms that potential serious girlfriends have to fill out. There is a I'M NOT CRAZY clausal form- which is just some legality issues, nothing big. However, if you break this, I am legally obligated to take action. And there's the....well, I guess that's it. No biggie.
Chow.

extreme pete.
ever wish that your life was a cleverly written sitcom on some premium channel? riddled with clever jokes, witty retorts, interesting...like really interesting happenings that make people respond out loud with a snort or spilling of milk though the nostril?
No? Well I do. I was watching Showtime's Californications and I have decided to make my life as interesting as David Duchovny's character. And Im not talking about tons of unadulterated sex, alcohol and drug abuse (while we are not completely ruling these out) or even being a sociopath-which has its perks Im sure. Im just talking about living a life worth living. Meeting people worth meeting. Doing things worth doing.
TV is written to arouse the senses. Why is it the lives we lead don't arouse the exact same thing? Its weird dont you think?
Well, Im taking this move as a new beginning. I have learned and grown so much as a person here in Chicago. Something I would've never done if I stayed on the East coast. My challenge now, is to continue evolving...to become better at living interestingly.
To become better at being me.
*that's pretty heavy huh? Have you guys met Extreme Pete?

weekend apologies.

I must apologize for my lack of pre-weekend good wishes. Stuff got a little crazy here at the job (soon to be ex-job). There was a pre-ordained beer tasting and one, amongst the many other mindless responsibilities I have/had, was to help set things like this up. Simply put, it was barrels of high-alcohol content beers (Delirium being my favorite) which eventually led to us jammin out to some music at a co-workers cubicle (high point of my HR career indeed) and ended with me going home with 2 cases of some foreign beer for my own (and my roommates) going away party. Needless to say, I was already drunk. But you know...that happens. But the point of the story was to explain my lack of blogging responsibility. I formally apologize to all 5 of my adoring readers.
Tough weekend. Lost a roommate...ummm to London, not like to death or anything. And I am slowly realizing how anxious/sad I am getting. I had grown accustom to Chicago. Its quirks. It awesome summers. The people. But in a week...Im relocating. Sadness....
But, here is something nice and refreshing to start off your Mondays. I saw these guys (my roommate Kelly's favorite band, or at least his favorite myspace band) live at Rib fest 2008on Sunday. I like them. And they are pretty awesome live. (Check the Bass Player...high as a kite).

american holidays, yes. american airlines, no.
I was out of town. And did not get a chance to wish you all a happy memorial day. Were it normal circumstance, i would be a day late...I am now two. But yeah...for all the men and women from the states who have decidedly sacrificed their lives for the freedom we live in today. Thanks. And thanks for the day off too.
Too all the other Americans who decided to create the franchise that is American Airlines. Slowly slit your risks vertically, and lie in a warm tub of water. Please. Do me that favor. Because you have the worst business ever. I use to think that nothing could live up to the experience I had with Delta, when they lied to my face to get me out of the airport only to lock me out and take my bags halfway across the country leaving me in a suit. But alas....AA, went for the gold.
So for my 9pm flight back to Chi-town last night (which I got there at 7pm for) I literally stood in line for an hour and a half. Im talking no more than 25 people in front of me...and I was there for 90 minutes just to check in with one bag. They were talking to individuals for 10-15 minutes at a time- but when you tried to strike up a conversation with them...they would give you the tude "Ive been working since yada yada"::neck roll::. So I stayed clear of that, cause I actually did want to get on my plane. But they literally had 2 people printing out tickets and they closed all of the self printing machines. Flights were getting cancelled left and right and I just knew something was going to go wrong.
And it all began with them telling me my flight as pushed to 11:45pm- and may be cancelled. Luckily, that worked out well, I was on a very comfortable 747 inwhich I closed my eyes on take off and opened them on landing. I was knocked.
So I go to pick up my bag. And I notice that it is wide open. Immediately, I think to myself...someone really did just steal my sh*t. They I thought...f*ck, my new camera. I brought a new digital camera for my bday. And I put the new box, with charger etc. in my bag. So when I saw it, i was devastated...but relieved that I had put the actual camera in my carry-on. So I thought, f*ck you ghetto ass ni**as (I used the N-Word in my head...I never use the N-WORD), I still got my camera, hope you can afford on with your food stamps. Then I realized, they got me...because they have all of the stuff I need to make the camera work, in all actuality...I only have a shell of a camera.
But no. The pure ignorance of my life continues. What comes rolling out on the motorized mat next. The torn-up phone box. only a few feet later...the plugs and charge. Then the intstructions. So these f*ckin jar head literally on the other side of the wall, took the box thinking it had the full monty in it. And when they realized it not complete....they put it back on the belt. To the woman pointing and giggling as she said, "Some got their stuff stolen" , I said as I scrimmaged to right the wrong that was done to me, "I suppose it would be just as funny if they took that raggedy ass wig off you head too."(in my head.)
And on top of that, i was standing around at 2am for 20 more minutes for a cab to go home. It was 40 degrees. In May/June.
So Im tired. Im cranky. And Im running out of airlines that I trust. I mean...Im not going to Singapore, I literally want to take a 2 hour flight from one major city to the another...without a problem.
America. Is that too much to ask?

lets talk about you and me.
well, more like...just me. Its time for a life update I guess.

25:15. What's that you may ask? That is the time it took me run a 5k yesterday. That's 3.5 miles in 25 minutes and 15 seconds. That's a little under an 8 minute mile. The fastest I've ever run a mile in my life. I mean....in the end I felt like I was gonna cough up a lung, but it's all for gold. Yeah right! Out of 23 thousand, I def didn't place. I ran way too fast in the beginning trying to keep up with my team captain (who is a girl who ran 22:02). The fastest guy was a 16:03. At the end I couldn't even muster up energy for a sprint to the finish. So yes...I got beat by a girl. But no....Im not ashamed, I got an awesome time.
I officially have a stylist. A chubby gay stylist with dreads. He name is Avery (no last name). If you don't recall, I use to have to go to the south side of Chicago just for a cut. The barber was a good 20 minute drive away. And after the first 2 trips, that was a total Whap Whap. So, I took the advice of some locals (my roommates who had seen a black barber on the northside) and went to Nappy HairZ. Despite its ignorant name, there was no mistaking that it was an African American Barber Shop right? Wrong. It was a salon. I was straight up sitting there with women in rollers. My stylist/barber is "The best dredder in the northside." And admitted to it rather willingly has he shaped my hair moving and grooving infront of me to some old school jams. But kudos in the end...he hooked me up. I even gave him a $5 tip. And for all of you who don't know, Im on the road to getting dredds. Now you know.
Ummmm, on a side note. That night I had a dream that Avery and his friends kidnapped me and held me hostage somewhere in the middle of IL. They let me keep my cell phone and I kept saying..."I know where you work, I can just call my mom ad she'll have the cops over at you shop in no time." But no one listen to me. It was actually a very disturbing dream. What do you think it means?
In other news....Im doing some interviewing. Its goin ok. Not great. Just ok. there's alot of hesitation due to my lack of in-agency experience. And that's blah. Because....if they knew how much passion I had for this industry and how hard I work once Im actually making ads, they would hire me right away. I swear I cant do anything else with my life. Ho hum, I guess Im ending this post on a high note.
Ill catch yall on the flip side.

my bday.
unlike most years...I am not going to make a big deal out of my bday. I have noticed an ongoing trend as you get older. There is less overall excitement surrounding you bday. Planning is always a disappointment. And its as it should be.
This year...all I want is a vintage mickey mouse T. Something like this...
Like straight line art...dots as eyes and it doesnt even have to be on a white shirt. Or 4 color.

And...I think thats as high as my hopes and aspirations go. Im not even clueing you into the big day. If I get this...I will be satisfied. And a new pair of kicks of coasre....but thats a given. lol.
haha...look at this mean Mickey. Genius.

cinco de mayo.

oh man, I always forget about the small holidays. Cinco de Mayo was yesterday. And I didn't even have a drop of tequila. Come to think of it...I havn't had a Margarita in like a year. I remember the days (back in college) when I didn't ever miss a drinking/narcotics holiday. Now a days, I can barely remember them (even when they are literal translations of the actual day its held on). Anyway...in a last minute celebration attempt....
Happy Cinco de Mayo.
Here a little Mexican Jammy Jam for ya...
...oh wait, that's not Mexican. Lets try again....
...Mmmmmm, ok, so I dont know that much about Mexicans. Im a New Yorker, I only know Puerto Rico and the DR (vacation destination, never). Sorry Maya. Maybe I'll get a Burrito to celebrate.
Wheeeeeppppa!

ch-ch-ch-changes.
I'm feeling the chill. Lately no one has been commenting on my posts. Is it because I changed the look and feel of the blog without consulting? Is it because Barbara Walters use to be in a a hot interracial relation ship, and your still in shock? Is it because I haven't discussed this weeks real world episode, and the crying Joey? It it because Madonna put out yet another album? Or is it...just that time of the month?
Well.....to bad/ Things change. Deal with the new bog layout. You will grow to love it.
Promise. Luv Ya....

sean bell.
Well, I f*cked up on Monday. I received that mass forwarded text message to dress in all black and I forgot. The text read something like this **Wear all black Monday for the injustice verdict in the Sean Bell case.*** And then they asked me to play along in the forwarding.
Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely hate forwarded messages, but this...I would have done. If you haven't heard, all 50 bullets fired at an innocent man, Sean Bell, killing him the night before his wedding day were deemed accidental. The police men were acquitted of all charges.
Let me get this correct...racism and prejudice are not a problem anymore...right?
Anyway....if you would like the shirt...click the picture. Your not the only one outraged my this injustice.

i need gay approval.
I had a good weekend, thanks for asking.
I have officially accepted my future in HR after attending my "boss's'" birthday party. Her crib was sick. I mean...really impressive. And if it only takes me...lets see, Im 23....17 more years to get to the top of the HR game. I think I am willing to submit the time and effort. After I kill myself. Twice.
Anyone looking for a good looking, fairly accurate, slightly bombastic AD? Email me.
Anyway, Saturday turned into a bit of a blur. Started drinking around 4pm. There was pulled pork involved. Mmmm. A drinking board game called Manland and then we ended up at what I call a gay night club. Yes. I said it. There was a group of 5 (2 girls) and a guest from out of town, and we end up at a gay club. btw Looked nothing like the picture above.
Now...everyone I was with said it wasn't a gay bar. And I admit, the upstairs was pretty straight. But, the basement...was totally gay. My roommate, who has apparently been to gay bars said that we were not at one. I asked some girls outside the bar, and after they insinuated that I was gay (which is completely my fault so I let it slide)...there response was "NO, gays clubs are fun....and that wasn't no fun."
excusing the double negative....wat do you think:
- heavy techno music in the basement
- a bunch of men grinding all up on each other
- gay friendly urinal reading material
-the club had some really obscure name...like Despair or
-the bathroom attendant was a black man with a perm
-everyone was kind of ignoring us (Ive been told that this is possible hetero phobia)
- terms used...."grl....." and "ok, do it...." I really was hoping someone used the term fierce.
all the ingrediants for Queer as Folk and Will and Grace (minus Grace) mixed up into one, right? Or no....
I need an analysis. Cause Im all confused and stuff. You know...its ok if it was gay....it would've popped the square hetero bubble Im living in...but everyone keeps telling me lies. There must be an answer out there. Isnt there a set way/place/thing that defines a gay club?
Like....men dancing with other men? Per se.........

sex and the weekend
ok, I could potentialy regret this post...but for you ladies and/or the man or two who has watched enough episodes of Sex and the City to know that Carrie (once a cheater always a cheater) Bradshaw got excatly what she deserved when she cheated with Mr Big...not that I would know.....
I have stumbled upon the official Sex and the City the Movie theme song. With a small resemblance to the tv show theme, Fergie delivers yet another shallow rendition of a song colored with count downs (1,2,3) , talking bits and repetition.
Now onto a weekend filled with manly things....like wrestling bears and providing for my family. Me man. Me make fire.
Peace.

job security.
today is take your son and daughter to work day at my "job."
unfortunately there will probably be little to no blogging today (try not to cry in public), but the good news is....I do have alot to talk about....from the new Real World to the cosmos beyond.
Whereas last year, take your son and daughter to work day was more like , "drop your kid off with the temp, Shaun day." This year promises to be a triumphant "Shaun you've been in the exact same place doing the exact same crappy thing" day.
That's a year folks....count it up. And what better way to celebrate than to watch a bunch of rich kids?!?
Narf.

my addiction.
good monday. i havnt said that yet.
so, Ive been doing some self evaluation. After a fairly entertaining weekend, I left for "work" this morning bright and early. It was a nice morning and I even got a seat on the train. And as I sat there riding backwards in a single seat (single seats are the best thing ever invented by transit) I could not help but to think about what my first blog topic here on this lovely site. Would it be the fight that escalated between roommates to the point of fisticuffs or the 32 chicago shootings this weekend and how I happened to venture to the south side when they occurred or my horrible decision to give a cousin my email = at least 3 forwarded emails a day or would it be the "stop snitchin" baby bib I saw on the morning news (a must have in my opinion).
I don't know if you've noticed, but I have severely dedicated myself to blogging in the past month. I have written / organized/ researched over 100 blogs this month....and I still have 10 days to go. Not to mention that I don't blog on the weekends. And while this might incriminate me...as far as my doings and accomplishments at my current "job", I cant even say I feel sorry about it.
But why.....why my sudden interest in creative online personal output? I mean...I am in no means or form, a writer. What is inspiring me to sweep through the Internet, current events and my life and relate them here in an entertaining form and fashion? Is it me lack of an truly enthralling life? Am I clutching to the last form of creativity in my current state of affairs as I slowly turn into a boring left brained office robot? Is this just an outlet of sorts for me to be who I truly am when no one is looking? Or am I just another vain ass hole who thinks they are interesting enough to sculpt a small nation of reading followers?
I dunno. I just thought I'd share.
Just read and enjoy...I'll get back to you with an answer one day.
That's not a promise though.

he remembered us.
I imagine the the almighty significant being known as God, has alot of things to do on his plate. Therefor, he probably has a check list of sorts. The good news...he has finally made his way down the list to Chicago (I feel bad for Zambia) and brought us spring...like, the season of spring. Its 70 degree outside. I almost broke a sweat on my morning commute to work today, and the weekly forecast finally has no indication of snow and or sleet. Amen to that.
And after last night's earthquake, I think he is for real this time. Yes, Chicago had a 4.5 earthquake at 4am this morning. Yep....your read correctly. I slept through it...which is kinda sad, because I will probably never experience another one. In all reality, if I were up I probably would've been weeping in a corner. But I guess we will never know. Is it strange that I equate the earth moving to a sign of biblical proportions that winter is finally over? Chicago winters have been know to make its residents a little loopy.
In other Shaun news...I have developed my first running related injury. Which makes me proud but at the same time, is extremely painful. I have runners knee (self diagnosed of coarse).
Causes of Runners Knee:
-Wide Hips (female runners)
-Knock Knees (Genu Valgum)
-Subluxating Patella
-Patella Alta (high patella)
-Small medial pole of patella or corresponding portion of femur
-Weak Vastus Medialis
-Weak Quadriceps Muscles
-Tight Hamstrings or calf muscles
-Pronation of the feet
Enlight of not knowing what 90% of that list is even refering to...I've decided that I either have wide "child bearing" hips or I am unknowingly, a woman with wide "child bearing" hips. Needless to say, I have to cut back on the running for atleast a week or so and strengthen my knee. I'm such an athlete.
To finish off this bloggy blog, which is all about me. If you dont know, I currently work at a financial trading company down in the loop of Chicago. I started off as a temp, then moved up to Office Manager and now I am basically the assistant to the HR assistant (no pictures please). I know...Im really close to advertising. But, anyway...I set up an interview for this guy. After about a week and a half of interviews he was hired. Today an email swept the office of a blog site (called The Office Ninja)that this kid clearly owns. How was it found?....Google. Lesson: if you are going to write blogs A.) Don't put your full name anywhere on it to avoid a simple Google search and find B.) At least have your blog be cool and interesting. I'm judging this guy....before he even has his first day and so are his superiors.
But on the flip side, do you think he set the blog up so that he could be Googled and found. So...it looks like he blogs...and is a completely techy, normal, hard working and a well adjusted human being fit for hiring, but also with a quirky fun side. Is "The Office Ninja" a little bit of genius....or is it stupidity?
Thats all folks, I actually have "work" to do. Stay tuned.

Stay tuned.

apathy vs empathy. and teeth.

The only thing better than a intensly concerned apathetic dentist is....well, in my opinion a blind dog digging vigorously at a cement side walk.
With a fake smile, a half-assed hand shake and an office set up unsettlingly similar to car repair shop (but much fancier), I met Dr. Gracias (I know, but Im really not clever enough to make that up).....the slightly caring dentist this morning. There was a sense of charm before she looked in my mouth, then there was silence, then there was a sympathetic explanation, then she hit me with a compliment (apparently I am handsome and have a nice smile), and then she brought about my demise and then made me verbally promise to come back.
Two....count them...two teeth need to be removed from "the last set [of teeth] God gave me". And boy....I cant wait.
The last time I was met with such a unique balance of sympathetic nonchalance I was talking to a Professor at BU. He too began with the fact that I am a good looking gentleman (which made me a bit uncomfortable until I met his wife) and then he proceeded with what my future career entailed. The result....3 years later....thousands of dollars down the drain, and I am still not doing what I want to do. So....yeah, I cant wait to see where this oral surgery stuff leaves me. Probably, with my luck, sipping virgin pina coladas, out of a straw, bed ridden with TB and listening to elevator music for fun.
Life is suppose to be good and smooth sailing at some point, right?
Pros: I experienced my first messaging (vibrating) dentist chair.
Cons: I didn't like it.

the internet scares me.

jeeeze. So we all know that I spend the better part of my day reading celeb gossip blogs (lets not talk about what I do with the rest of it). Well.... I just need to share how ruthless the blog reading community is.
I recently read that Camron Diaz's dad died on thesuperficial.com (still going strong Aoife), after, I just thought Id read the comments section...because basically, it wasn't really an entertaining story...it was more of an obit. And I wanted to see how people responded to it. And i was reading. There were people who didn't care. People doing the "R.I.P" thing. People pointing out that Papa Diaz seemed to have 8 toes in the picture provided. Stupid stuff.
But then, I stumbled upon these....
50. My Deepest Sympathy - April 16, 2008 12:55 PM
My deepest sympathy to Cameron.
My dad was abusive and molested me so the day he dies, I will mourn the father I never had.

P.S. Who dies of pneumonia? Isn't there a cure for that? Like...cough medicine? Jeeeze.
P.S. 2 Today marks the one year anniversary of the VT shootings. Just a little reminder! RIP to all of those students and thier families.

ok, Boston.
Boston unveiled its new metro ad campaign, apparently to fight the ongoing sexual harassment that occurs on the T. "Rub Against me an I'll expose you." This reminds me of one experience I encountered on the Boston transit system. 2004 I think, or whenever the Red Sox were in their neck to neck battle with the Yankees, and I was sportin a fitted back then...a Navy Yankee fitted. I was on my way to one of my many jobs and the train was packed. Some poor soul was trying to squeeze their way into the front, and he too was wearing a Yankee fitted. A Bostonian watching him literally became enraged and started yelling profanities and kicked him in the chest off of the train. Straight foot to the chest, and the man landed on his back outside as the train door closed and the kicker received high fives and congratulations from surrounding passengers.I guess what I'm trying to say is that sexual harassment isnt particularly the biggest problem Boston has. One step at a time though...I guess.

this has been weighing down on my conscience.
A few work days ago...I was walking to the train. I was relatively on time. No real rush was needed. But I did have my ipod on...and there is a mix I like to listen to on the way to work. Ok fine, I was early.
But let's stay on topic. I was crossing the intersection, and since I live in Chicago, where the five corner intersection is practically a law requirement, I was crossing one of multiple ways that one normal man can cross an intersection (approximately 5...not including if you take the allys, don't ask). Anyway, I saw my neighbor crossing the complete opposite way, and we were clearly going to the same place...the same direction...and possibly the same mode of transit.
She...is a nice girl. We don't have much in common. She is still in school. A theater major. Lives with 3 other fine art majors. And well...lets just say, every time I wander over their house drunkenly...I ALWAYS end up going directly back home. Even in a drunken stupor I can't find anything interesting enough to keep me around,
What did I do? Well...I sped up, making sure I crossed my three streets well before she crossed her two. I diverted my eyes to the ground and when I came to the same destination street (pre public transit) I sped walked like a mother f*cker to elude the chance of A.) her catching up to me and tapping me on the shoulder or even, lord forbid, B.) I got caught on the train platform with her and was cornered into a useless morning chit chat.
Why did I do all this? I just wasn't in the mood to talk.

summer clothing.
by request and request only, I am to speak of fashion. Which i generally dont do anymore because I am too poor and living in the Midwest makes it a bit easier to dress everyday. All I really need is a straw hat and strand of hay and paparazzi follow me around in the streets thinking I am denzel Washington. Alas alas...my readers demand it...well, one person does, and Id say thats about 1 of 5 of my readers (20%).
I am turning into: That cool hippy cat that doesnt really care about how he looks, but has mirror plastered all over his home. Ingredients: Black jeans. And Converse allstars. Yep, I own both. The man that was once labeled as being a Yuppie...now slips on his shoes and sees the upside wearing a black jeans. And thier black converses, low top. I know its not a big deal...but I guess I never saw myself as a chuck wearer. So, west coast....it hurts. But its too easy. And now I have hair, so i gotta get a litte Neo Soul on yall. Other things I have my "poor mans budget" eyes on...aka soon to own.
And you know I need to get myself a new pair of white Pumas. Yerp!
And it will be a new world of color for your boy. I know, I know. Pink. YIKES! You know my life has changed, when pink becomes and option. But lets not get crazy.....its just a T-shirt. Im not Camron.
Im still a little iffy about this one. Cardigans....I mean...I dont want to look like Mr Rogers. Or Freddrick Douglas.
And yep, Im goin there. All the way to Prep school, suburb, frat boy and back with these Madras Shorts. And you will love it. No worries....everything will be below the knee. Promise.
I would ask your opinion.....but I think you will take it upon yourself to offer it.
That is all.
