"Real Men....."

So apparently Demi Moore was "taken advantage of when she was a teenager." So her and Ashton decided to make some spots using "real men" and telling us what "real men" do. In the end.....the same pay off, they "don't buy girls." Below are the best of the group. You can see the rest here.

For such a strong, compelling and necessary message, I think the light hearted-ness of these spots is inappropriate. They are very bud light-ish. But the outcome is not purchasing a twelve pack. It's fighting misogyny and sex trafficking. So unless those two share some common thread I dont know about....perhaps the approach should have been more thought out.

I must say though, the way Bradly Cooper ate his cereal.....that could only happen in a dream. A very very good dream.

YELLOW DYNO: PEDO HUNTER.

YELLOW DINO: PEDO HUNTER from Everything Is Terrible! on Vimeo.

Ummmm, this PSA is perhaps the best thing I have ever seen. A yellow dinosaur that not only tells us about the harms of people like pedophile Reginald Charming but shows us how to handle them.

I would love to have the printed script to this. "I'm talking to you lizard. Do you hear me!!!"

Breast Cancer PSA.

Grey Amsterdam's breast cancer awareness campaign is completely ball to the wall...for lack of a better phrase. (See the whole Image and the rest of the campaign work here). Kinda...half NSFW. But damn....I love this.

The Diarrhea Songs used in a PSA.

"Let's dig toilets, not graves."

I must say....this has to be the most emotionally confusing PSA ever. At first, I'm cracking a smile to a bunch of tots singing a poop song, then the little African kid made be sad. Which I guess was the point.....

Effective? Yes. It's just the VO dudes lines that get me.

A PSA i don't appreciate.

Warning: This is an Opinion post.

Ok, I'm going to break from my routine for a quick second. I want to make sure I get this straight. A group was created, I Need A Freakin Job (INAFJ) for the sole purpose of making a PSA and encouraging a social movement that asks the president of the United States to personally supply them with jobs?

Cause you know...he is the sole person holding you back. The President alone, holds to the key to your personal success. In a country that prides itself on democracy, the allotment of government and a free market of supply and demand, some how the President (this President who was just elected after years of a mishandled presidency and an unsanctioned economy) should give you a job.

How about you go look for one, instead of asking for handouts. Handouts that you probably cannot mentally grasp the repercussions of. Maybe you should update your resume instead of poorly designing and producing advertisements that make it seem like you live in a third world country under the regime of a dictator who is holding jobs from you. I'm so tired of people talking out of their asses instead of trying to understand the issues that cause and regulate the situation we are in.

And if you are all unemployeed....how did you pay for that bill board? ::side eye::

Gruesome, but impactful as far as print is concerned. Line: "Dont Talk While You Drive." Good stuff. Layered just right. Of coarse not done in America.

Heavy Ads.

This PSA campaign is heavy. Completely simple and has the legs to run through any medium.

"The videos are presented on Facebook along with information about the dangers of texting and driving, downloadable print materials, and a “Parent/Teen Pledge” that youth can sign as a guarantee that they will not text and drive."

Sponsored by AT&T. Talk about relevant and impactful. I know too many people who use texting instead of talking on the phone while driving. Hell...I do it. It's thought of as a "Take that," to the cell phone driving laws/ police looking to fill their ticket quota. Sure...doing anything beside driving, while driving is dangerous. But missing the "U" in "Where r U" cause you drove into oncoming traffic....way to bring it home through execution.

The NY Emergency Break, PSA.

emergency brake from Casey Neistat on Vimeo.

Wait what? MTA....that is completely and utterly useless. When I lived in Chicago they used that sh*t all the time. If the door closed before you got off at your stop (pull it-doors open-you get off). If you accidentally got on an empty train to realize the the red line smelly bum was the reason it was empty (pull it-doors one-you get off). Sh***t, if you get on and realized to want to take a cab.....you get the point. But in all actuality, when you waiting in the Chi-town cold 15 feet in the air above ground, you are praying to be on a train with the doors closed.

Happy....World AIDS day.

While the rest of the World had serious, morbid messaging about World AIDS day yesterday...the people of South Korea dressed up like giant colorful condoms and giddily roamed the streets.

Alot of condoms posts these past few days....

Sell The Vatican, Save The World.

This is a Faux PSA that I caught while watching Bill Mahr last Friday. It's a Sarah Silverman skit like thingy. So if you are not into Sarah Silverman (which I usually am not), save yourself some time. But if you find her hilarious...this is pretty entertaining. I mean...who really needs Vatican City anymore? I mean...we already got two Dan Brown books out of it.

4.04.2009

Heavy Ads.

Geesh. Actress Kiera Knightly "stars" in this spot for Women's Aid, raising awareness of domestic violence. What a downer. No one should put their hands on anyone else. And there is absolutely no reason why a man should abuse a woman. Did anyone else think that the guy was Clive Owen? He looks like the type of dude that would do that to a girl. F*ck him.

Men's Fashion. Who is taking responsibility?

I have spoken about this before. I wrote a bit of a PSA about making wise clothing decisions as a man. But this time due to the antics of the Man: London Fashion Week 2009, I'm putting the blame on the makers. Someone has to take some responsibility. Look at this....

....Cockney, football firm lad or back up Madonna dancer ...
Who let grandpa out in his PJs. How did this man even get on the runway?

Yes.
I do want to wrap my comforter around  my waste.
It's an ass bow.
In 2009, pants are optional, but turtle necks are mandatory.

I mean...someone needs to explain. Cas???? Anyone??? Who is taking responsibility here???

about a decade too late.

Geee wiz golly, I wish I had this convenient audio book guide about the whens and whys of having sex for the first time back when i was a kid. It would have shaved at least four year off of my current sex life. Because according the accented narrator....I am still not ready....

Oh, and when your done, you must check the Q&A section. It contains nuggets of gold such as this:

Q. How can I tell if my penis is big enough?

A. The simple answer is that it's almost certainly big enough, boys are all kinds of shapes and sizes. Remember people are interested in your personality, too. Have a look at some of these links for more information.

Phewwww.....that's one down. Now you must excuse me as I figure out everything there is to know about girls (or atleast Jill).

these ads are so gay.

Adcouncil has just debuted a new campaign, thinkb4youspeak.com. The campaign highlights the use of the terms "That's so Gay." Check out the first spot here

This is their print campaign.

OK, so I understand this PSA. Terminology is used in a way that is slanderous to a certain demographic. Creative execution (or lack there of) aside, there is no way that the words "faggot" and "dyke" are in the same arena a "That's so Gay." And thats a fundamental flaw in this idea. These words are not in the same league. Or are they?

I once asked a gay friend of mine if calling things "Gay" was offensive, and their response...."well, how gay was it?" I think, what they should be targeting are all the frat boys who call each other "fags."

Im just playing devils advocate here. This campaign is just a little shallow for my liking. There's like half of a thought here and then they seem to throw in terms to stir up emotions. What do you think?

And in the end....will these ads work? Or are the kids that they are targeting gonna simply call them gay?

9.11.2008

bamboozled lately?

with the NY fashion week well on its way (or maybe it's over...I dunno, it's still on TV), I think it's important for me to reiterate that it is crucial for one to be be completely honest with themselves....especially,  concerning what you choose to wear. Featured below is the fall...no spring....no...fall collection of Thom Brown.
im no fashion guru....but I think I speak a relative truth, when I say collections like these, are not to be worn in public. Consider this a fpsa (fashion public service announcement). You see...designers have complete creative license when it comes to their work. The only thing holding them back, is their potential demographic. Unlike us poor ad agency creatives, they don't have an ever looming CD (unless you are designing for like Calvin Klein). With that said...not all ideas they have are good. There is no one to pull in the reigns. And the result....in this case....man dresses and translucent man evening gowns.

And I use to do a little modeling. And the thing is, these poor male models go to the show....not knowing what the hell the designer has up his sleeve. They have no say. And...they are getting paid to look a fool (especially the poor dude in the last picture). You my friend, are not.

So I guess what I am trying to say is... be mindful (sensible) people. Americans have a long history of being gullible...especially when it comes to "creative" apparatuses. I mean....that's how I make my living. Don't get bamboozled.

Quick question...we, as a country, are still calling these uniform pieces of fabric wrapped under the waist, skirts right? Or did I miss a cultural fashion revolution?

UPDATE: I just thought about it....who sits around the office and gets this bright idea?...hey, you know what they dont do enough of....skirts for men. Big obnoxious skirts for men.

Retro Ads: mr mac, the psa.

there were no subtleties back in the day. Mr Mac was a bad guy...and ad people made this psa to let you know that. Now, let's all feel bad for the little well spoken kid.

PSA

The situation is as follows.

The new chris brown song Take You Down is ruining our youth.

Kids today cannot be trusted. Chris Brown made a slow grind freakum song that is rather good. And mark my words, this song will be the reason for many underaged pregnancies this season. Ya heard.

Example 1:

You have been forwarned.
