The "N" Word.

MTLB tries to tackle the use of the "N" word. It's interesting. I suggest you put this on as background noise while you go one with your work day. It's a good listen. Check it here.
It's interesting to hear ad people try to breakdown it's usage.

A Leveled Party.

"Berlin-based artist Hans Hemmert (famous for his work with balloons) threw a party where guests wore shoe-extenders to make them all the same height of 2 meters....Hiis (completely underpublished) project, entitled "Level," is from 1997, produced for the Personal Absurdities show at the Galerie Gebauer Berlin. Finding it now, in 2010, I can't help but read it as a design event, getting directly at the basic qualities that shape our interactions with others—what does it mean when we all share one height?"- Core 77

Very fun. And interesting project. I mean, I get a little antsy when people stand next to me on the subway that are taller than me ...so this is probably not the party for me- everyone being the same height and all. But it's an interesting social experiment. I wonder is short people acted more confidently, and vis versa. Or if it was just an awkward ordeal all together? And how many glasses of wine did it take for the midget at the party to finally bust his ass? Hmmmm.

Tune In: Race in Advertising.

Bill Green from Make the Logo Bigger and Angela Natividad of Adrants and MarketingVOX fame recently posted their first installment of AdVerve, which is actually a two-part epic discussion of racism in advertising with author Hadji Williams.

Check it out. Part 1, Part2.

Pretty interesting discussion. Kudos for taking on a big issue so well.

The NYC Annual Pillow Fight.

Apparently there is such thing as the NYC Pillow Fight. It's annual and this year it will happen on Wall Street on Saturday April 4th at 3pm. I personally am not into pillow fights. Someone always gets hurt. Last year the event drew in 2,000 people....supposedly.

religious ads.

“There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

Say hello to the new Athiest Bus Campaign. Apparently, across the pond, there is a lil problem with freedom of religion. The campaign's goal is to, "help raise awareness of atheism in the UK, and hopefully encourage more people to come out as atheists... also [to] counter the religious adverts which are currently running on London buses, and help people think for themselves."

Wow, it makes me wonder, just how radical the religious ads are in London... that the head atheists of the town had to make a rebuttal by instituting an ad campaign? Are there pope PSAs and catholic guerrilla movements being launched on the daily? Cause if there are....I would LOVE to see them. I read about them briefly, but what I really want is to experience them. What is the art direction like? Does anyone have any insight? I am delightfully intrigued! (I may make my own religious ads).

Now, I know religion is a touchy subject for people. Are these relevant? I dunno, I thought atheists couldn't read (I kid). But as a graphic designer (which I am not), I do see the correlation between "coming out (of the un-rightfully condemned closet)" and the bright ass colors used on the type of that bus sign.

Good job, kudos and God Bless.

Lesson of the day: Brits are evil.

and another thing about blogging.

leave it to me to find a story that encapsulates everything I hate about people and culture. ADRANT has a really interesting story about TROLLING-internet abusing.

The NYT Magazine ran a story about a young boy who killed himself. His highschool friends tried to honor his untimely death through online tributes such as myspace and mydeathspace.com (which is a trend lately that freaks me out, in general), but somehow this kid's death leaked its way into the little beta blog sites of the internet world, where someone found it funny. After a uphill tumble of jokes and malice the kid's named resurfaced in the form of a mock youtube video and prank calls to his parents.

The level of cold apathy that is out there surfing the internet with such a cruel higher than thou self righteousness and apathy. But what is worse, are the people out there who start this stuff. According to the NYT they are known as TROLLs, a term created in the 80's to "denote someone who intentionally disrupts online communities." It's a means of "provoking strangers, online."

Here is another interesting titbit....LuLz (the evil LOL)
“Lulz is watching someone lose their mind at their computer 2,000 miles away while you chat with friends and laugh,” says and actual troll.

Another troll explained the lulz as a quasi-thermodynamic exchange between the sensitive and the cruel: “You look for someone who is full of it, a real blowhard. Then you exploit their insecurities to get an insane amount of drama, laughs and lulz. Rules would be simple: 1. Do whatever it takes to get lulz. 2. Make sure the lulz is widely distributed. This will allow for more lulz to be made. 3. The game is never over until all the lulz have been had.”

I dont know. This whole article was just really interesting. It give you some insight into the society we are living in now. And how the media (mediums) are so powerful and yet romantic enough to intertwine with our emotions and actions. The computer today is like the tv to the 30's (im guessing here) and the radio before that...in that people believe it and take it as a truth. There should be some psychological testing for this. What makes the Internet so powerful? And the weirdest part, is that I can spend an entire day online and not notice a single banner ad. But when it comes to writing on a blog the strings of caring are right around the corner.

There is something in blogging that adpeople arent taping in on.
Its just interesting...the juxtaposition of it all. No? Or maybe its just the brain vomit of a young creative bored at work. My thoughts are kinda all over the place. Sorry.

the bible version 2: return of the jedi.

a group of swedish creative types have come together to remake the bible.

thier goal:

"To introduce today’s audience to a revolutionary Bible, one that encourages dialogue and is culturally relevant, readily accessible and easily digestible for any reader regardless of religious, economic, racial or social background."

AKA, turn that boring piece of sh*t into a magazine with tons of pictures and quotes. All jokes aside, this is kinda interesting.  Sure, its just falling in line with all the other remakes of this decade. If the Tranformers and  Thundercats can have a preemptive make-over, why cant the figurativly literal words of God also have a little work done?

I think I will get this for my new apartment.

the Wackness.

New movie trailer. Start saving now.

The fact that Mary Kate Olsen and Methodman were in the same place for more than 10 minutes intrigues the sh*t out of me. Enough so to see this in the theaters.
