The Linkdown: After a Snowfilled Halloween.

2. Banksy makes his wealthy contribution to occupy wallstreet. To be a rich well fed artist.

3. In celeb Halloween costume news: Coco goes for gold again, the Today show makes fun of the royal wedding, Snookie insults the Thundercats and Kiedi Klum wins once again. The real story of Halloween however is what happens to super "stars" when they park in handicap spot. Usher cant dance his way out of this one.

5. Rihanna gets a little druggy in her new video with dude that sort of looks like Chris Brown. Eh...who cares?

7. The color palette of good vs evil. I think this translates into real life. I work with this guy who stay wearing purple. And you can tell me he's NOT trying to take over the world.

8. Jay Z is gonna be in a cartoon. He is a camel....jk.

9. What Smurfs looks like in real life....still kinda cute and cudely....in a creep sort of way.

Samuel L. Ipsum (let me take a second to be an ad geek).

Fuck Lorem Ipsum. Lorem Ipsum don't know anything about snack on planes or giant motherfuckin smart sharks attacking. It's time to upgrade to Samuel L. Ipsum.

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee."

The above is what I got. It's a whole lotta awesome.

Hovering Art Directors.

This tumblr can only be truly appreciated by the AD or design professional. It's always more than one person. There is always a deadline they have no control over. And they always think they are more stressed out than you. Just give up the riegns and say..."How do you want it to look?"
It's all for the best.

See much more here.

Droga 5 (my dream agency...the one in NY) gives us creatives a little something to celebrate in 2011. Read the whole thing here. It's a nice little pick me up for the morning...especially after everyone you know at your job just resigned in 2011. My New Years resolution for this year use to be....NOT HAVING A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION, but I think I'll change it to...having more fun.

Creatives: Why we are crazy.

As you stroll the halls of an ad agency you often encounter people wearing baseball caps, wandering aimlessly and muttering to themselves. We call these people "creatives." They are the ones who make the ads. They are always confused. Here's why.

-They are pressured by their leaders to do "great" work. But when they do, they usually get reprimanded for not being "on strategy."

-They are encouraged to win awards. But when they do, they are dismissed as childish narcissists.

-They are highly paid, but rarely listened to.

-They are told that it's "all about the work" but come to learn that it's "all about the metrics" or "all about the relationship" or "all about the conversation" or "all about" whatever the cliche-of-the-month is.

-When they say advertising is an art, their clients say it's a business.

-When they say it's a business, their clients say it's an art.

-When they finally get something good produced, it fails.

-When they produce mundane crap, it works.

-When their friends like it, their clients hate it.

-When their clients like it, their friends hate it.

-They are encouraged to be collaborative. But the more people touch their work, the worse it gets.

-They are counseled against becoming prima donnas. But they see that the people who get good jobs are often disagreeable monsters.

If they weren't confused they'd be crazy.

I loose my mind atleast three times a week. However...I am not highly paid.

1. Cool lego wedding rings. I want to do this.

5. Ok, I'm officially a 40 yr old black woman, I just watched all of dancing with the stars (to see what the Situation did). And I was really entertained. But the cast is completely random and really close to being stars (and we get to visit the Palin family's household).

6. Google hates lesbians.

7. Genius reality mix up, "You won, no wait...you won." Ty Ty would have never......

The Industry of Advertising, thinks about Muslim Perception in America.

"The controversy over the proposed site of the Park51 Islamic Center two blocks from Ground Zero has exposed fault lines in American society. The project has inspired a fervent national debate about religious freedom and tolerance and protecting the sanctity of a site where thousands perished in the World Trade Center attacks.

According to a Time magazine poll conducted last month, 61 percent of 1,000 adults surveyed opposed the project, while 26 percent supported it. Just 23 percent said it would be a symbol of religious tolerance, while 44 percent said it would be an insult to those who died on 9/11. Additionally, 46 percent of those polled believed Islam was more likely than other faiths to encourage violence against non-believers, although only 37 percent said they knew a Muslim American.

Adweek editors Eleftheria Parpis and Brian Morrissey challenged over 30 agencies to apply their communications skills to address the issue. Five did so.

The brief: change the perceptions of ordinary Americans toward Islam and Muslims, and encourage dialog between those who oppose and support the building of the community center. Participants were free to choose whatever media they felt would be most effective in communicating their ideas. Here are the agencies' visions and the summaries of their strategic thinking, in their own words.
"

The results are underwhelming.

"...it's your job. I give you money. You give me ideas."

"But you never say thank you."

"You will get your recognition. Everything to you is an opportunity. But you should be thanking me every morning you wake up, along with Jesus, that you have another day."

An Excerpt from Selling Death in Thirty Days.

Death interrupts a creative director on his lunch hour. Said creative director is non-too pleased:

ED (ACD)
You're death?

MR. X
If you need a name.

ED
I can't die. I really don't have time for this actually.

MR. X
You can’t refuse.

ED
No, but I can make you a better offer.

MR. X
One can’t bargain these things.

ED
Your brand sucks.

MR. X
Brand? I’m not a brand. I’m a reality.
I’m the most profound of realities, I’ve
been here since the beginning of time —

ED
-- You’re a has been. Yesterdays news.
A dying brand.

Mr. X
Funny.

ED
Life. Life is all everyone cares about. And everyday
we live longer. And longer. It’s a matter of time before science
catches up to you. You have no unique selling proposition.

Mr. X
I have inevitability.

ED (out of breath)
There’s always something newer, better, shinier with fancy
technology. Even now, there’s vaccines. And cloning. And
Whole Foods. Your shelf life is almost up.

MR. X
Death doesn’t end.

ED
No it just dwindles. And becomes obsolete.

MR. X
I’m listening…

ED
You can’t beat life. Unless people can be convinced to
seek you out. To want death.

MR X
Why would people want death? No one every wants
to see me.

ED
But they do. I sell death everyday. Think about it.
High fructose corn syrup. Cigarettes, Look it says it on the box.
And they love it. I can make you big.

Mr. X
I like the sound of that.

And this is exactly what ACDs/CD do. talk you into some shit. Gotcha death.
