Bin Laden friend request...Accepted.

"....Amnesty International Portugal and Leo Burnett Iberia launched Tyrannybook, a social network dedicated to the surveillance of some of the world leaders who violate Human Rights the most. By building a global community of Human Rights defenders, this nonprofits organization aims to get more involved in the social networks during this year 2010, not only to gain the visibility inherent to the web platform, but also to facilitate the contact between the causes it promotes and the public. Thus was born Tyrannybook, a network that aims to generate a global consciousness about the countless atrocities that take place here and there across the globe..."

"The Tyrannybook will gain size and presence on the web each week that passes. In this first phase there are ten tyrants in the site: Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan, Kim Jong Il of North Korea, Than Shwe of Myanmar, Hu Jintau of China, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, Thomas Lubanga Dyilo of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Radovan Karadzic of Serbia, Aleksandr Lukashenka of Belarus and Ramzan Akhmadovich Kadyrov of Chechnya. Taking advantage of the visibility of this kind of social networks, Amnesty hopes to get more support to the causes it promotes...."

I know. I know. I should be more impressed. But after reading the description, I was left kinda...like "AND???" Then I read makethelogobigger's concerns, which are valid. You sure as hell wont be registering onto any sites when your first born is up for grabs. And it all seems so, lackluster and not really thought out with a purpose. It's just a working wikipedia.

I mean, maybe there are some secret phases I don't know about or understand. I haven't gotten to the site yet, because of high bandwidth buzz. I guess the idea and use of a social media is timely. I can imagine the creatives involved thinking that they are shit right now. And they will probably win tons of awards within the ad community. But I can seem to get past the "AND...." It's like the scene in the movie"Dude Where's My Car" when they are at the drive in. I'm playing the person taking the order.

What happens after I accept the friend requests of tyrants? Can I poke them (no homo)? Do I get to experience mass genocides? Who is in charge of tagging? And more importantly, is Hitler on there?
