Fun Construction Signs.

If there's going to be anyplace in NY that would have funky street art popping up randomly and pointlessly...it would be Brooklyn. In this case street art posing as construction signs have been splattered around DUMBO- the quaint and obscure city-village that lies right next to the water bt the Brooklyn and Manhatten bridges (on the Brooklyn side).

Like I needed a sign to tell me it was ok to play with myself.....

A Bit much.

"A poster of Barack Obama in Heath Ledger-style Joker make-up with the legend 'Socialism' beneath it has been popping up recently on surfaces around L.A. ..."

I get it. Characterizing public leaders is the thing to do. It's like totally in (on both sides). But what's the connection here? Obama certainly in no joker. He is not to be taken lightly. And he is not clinically insane. So....

Hey Jude.

T-Mobile does another stunt. Where as the last one creeped me out a little bit. This one is cute. Managing to get 13,000 people together and making them sing karaoke in the midst of London is fun. What it has to do with a phone? Oh yeah...Life's For Sharing (???). I dunno. But I do get down to some Beatles tunes.

pet shops without pets. it's art, right?

Inter-medium artist Bansky, just opened a Pet Store in the Village (NY). But like some many of his other works, this "pet store" is not just adorned with cute puppies and furry little hamsters. Instead...it is riddled with social commentary and cultural cotour (if you will). Below are a few pics....don't want to spoil anything for you (but mostly for me), so there are only a few.

It is suppose to be open until Oct 31st from 10am to mindnight. So get down there and see this sh*t.  89 7th Avenue between West 4th and Bleeker Street.

“New Yorkers don’t care about art, they care about pets. So I’m exhibiting them instead. I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing. I took all the money I made exploiting an animal in my last show and used it to fund a new show about the exploitation of animals. If its art and you can see it from the street, I guess it could still be considered street art."

i own that shirt.

This is humorous, because every time I go out for extracurricular activities in the city I see one of these flurry little monsters waving at me from the underbelly of the subway. So much so that this weekend in DUMBO (not the cartoon) over in Brooklyn I even succumbed to calling them Bunny Rabbits so that my girlfriend knows not to look and freak the f*ck out.

And trust me...there are some big ass rabbits in DUMBO.

reality ads.

But perhaps this NY street art installation is a bit too real for the average new york commuter. High rent, small living space, a crappy job....this ad may be hitting a little too close to home (see below).
