Year of the Rabbit.

Year of the Rabbit from Frater on Vimeo.

Happy new Year. I was listening to Hot 97 this morning and I discovered that in the Chinese culture, married people are recuired to give cash money in red envelopes to single folk. Let's take the time to applaud goods ideas, and this you can enjoy the simple yet nice little animation above.

P.S. (I would be single for a loooong time if I was Chinese).

Murakami in NY.

"...among the usual floats in the macy’s thanksgiving day parade were takashi murakami’s kaikai & kiki characters. the japanese designer specially created the giant floating balloons and rode along with them dressed in a green flower costume. macy’s began their collaboration with murakami in 2008, but it wasn’t till this year that he was free to work on the floats..."

I love this. Among the classics were these little nuggets. Genius.

Nice. I have no idea what it's about. You do the research (this time) I completely stole this from KMBA.

Coca Cola Quest.

Coke Quest from Paranoid US on Vimeo.

Beautiful video created by SANTO Buenos Aires as part of the campaign celebration of Coca-Cola for the 2010 World Cup . As always fantastic production of Paranoid U.S., directed by Edouard Salier, animation of the crowd of theDigital District and track official World Cup song, artist K'NAAN.

Awesome Animation. I also do not have a problem with the story. It's simple. The writer could have been a little less vague. But ehh.....still lovely work. it must be nice to have a client willing to spent a cagillion dollars on creative.

Logorama.

Remember when I made the pitch for Granny O'Grim to win the Oscars for animated short? Will, it didn't. The one below did.

See the whole short film here. Definetly worth a watch.

Meet Granny O'Grim.

Granny is the star of a short film that was written and performed by Kathleen O’Rourke, directed by Nicky Phelan and produced by Brown Bag Films in 2008. It has screened in numerous festivals and won several awards. It...I mean she was recently nominated for an Oscars. She is probably (hopefully) a little darker- scorned by a life of rage and misfortune, but hysterical and deserves whatever accolades come her way. Check out her little Christmas warning below.

"....to destroy you." If you didnt laugh, you have no sense of humor.

Granny O Grimm maybe a little old, but she has her own website and is on Facebook and twitter. This is the only time I condone twitter use. Go forth wisely.

Someone call me, when the Jamaicans have a bobsled team.

It starts tomorrow kids. I will not be going Olympics crazy like I did 2 summers ago. Because...well because I could frankly give 2 sh*t about the Winter Olympics and/or Vancouver. But the animation is nice for BBC's coverage....isn't it?

UPDATE: Okay, maybe I'll watch it a little bit.

Animated Zombie Movie?

Hell Yes!!!!!!!! I have this internal hierarchy of "Cool Ass Shit" List. And both zombies and cartoons not only make the list, but they top it. It's like Pixar meets Rob Zombie. But probably still only a little less creepy than Polar Express (I have not seen Polar Express, but the previews of Jim Carey alone were terrifying).

A.D., I hope this is real.

Bathroom Graffiti confronts AIDes (AIDS).

Pretty clever. A little NSFW....but this brings me to a larger issue at had: What is going through the minds of the people who draw penises (peni) on things? I went to a all boys school....and certain people (I'm going to be PC about this) just had an affliction with penises all over the place. And then they would laugh and laugh. I mean....if you are going to draw private parts in 3rd period on you marble notebook (or your friends)....why not draw a vagina?

I'm just saying.

X-Mas in India (according to Nick).

Xmas in India from provato on Vimeo.

Ok...so it's after christmas. But this spot for Nick by Nick is just so fun and light hearted I had to post it. This is the first mental footprint of the Indian culture (dot dot), that has been imprinted upon the brain  of thousands of kid across the nation. Hey, it's gotta start somewhere, right? Even if it's boarder line racist.

I kid. I kid,

The Linkdown: Christmas Week.

.

Alma from Rodrigo Blaas on Vimeo.

1. Creepy Doll film. The animation is stunning. The story...creeps the hell out of me.

2. Barbies go Gaga.

4. If you have an hour....this really retro film about the US Military and Mind Control will blow your mind.

5. The new Robin Hood movie is really just Gladiator 2: The Reincarnation. But will I still watch the sh*t out of it? Yes.

6. Lady Gaga meets the Queen of England. It's definitely a bad romance.

7. Guerrilla Penis enhancement street tactics. The wonder bra for men's junk. Thank god...I was really worried about this.

8. I cannot believe Brittany Murphy died yesterday. I MUST watch Clueless immediately. RIP.

10. Nike does rapping Santa Puppets. More Kobe and Lebron shenanigans.

Destino by Salvadore Disney.

Destino from only one on Vimeo.

In 1945 Spanish painter Salvador Dali and Walt Disney collaborated on an animated short that was intended to be a segment in the animated epic Fantasia.

You know....not every artist in the world is meant to collaborate. And while this is perfectly fine....it certainly did not belong in Fantasia.

9.

I think this animated film is all over youtube, but I saw the previews in the actual theater. It looks amazing...so i will not try to yourtube it. Set to come out to theaters in September, the film is by Shane Acker. And the line that accompanies the film (according to my 5 minutes of research) is Sometimes Fear is the appropriate Response. That's bad ass...someone hire a real writer, and I appreciate that.

On another note I also watched Wall-e last night with my girlfriend, and amongst all the "aaaawww"s and "oh noooo"s, it also was a great little movie. I wont tell you which one of us was awwwing and oh noooing.

Meet the First African American Princess.

It was about 2-3 years ago when all the girls I knew posted aim away messages (that should date me) about the news of a "new African American" Disney princess. I am an avid fan of Disney and the entire creative process that fuels it. I also have a heart string attached as my grandmother use to give me a new Disney movie each and every gift giving holiday. As a kid, I even wanted to be a cartoonist. So...I never pulled the race card on Mr Disney. I do recall having one or two jovial middle school conversations at the lunch table about The Lion King being the "black Disney movie." You know- cause it's in Africa. Just like Pocahontas was from a general woodland area and Jasmine and Aladdin were in the Middle East. But it was all a joke. I never really thought about the Princesses. Cause you know....I am a boy.

But apparently this movie is being made. Disney has started production on the animated musical fairy tale called “The Frog Princess,” which will be set in New Orleans and will be the first hand-drawn film Disney has committed to in quiet some time. And from what I have seen, it seems to have all the good characteristics of the oldies. Anika Noni Rose (girl 3 from the movie Dream Girls aka not Beyonce or Jennifer Hudson), will be doing the voice the character of Princess Tiana (or Maddy, depending on the source). I hope it's Tiana, because I can name 3 Tianas that I know personally off the top of my head (and if it were Kiana, it would be like 10). Not only is this Disney's first black princess, but it is Disney's first American princess. Oh yeah...and Oprah is in it-duh. But of course, it doesn't end there for a new black heroin. There is some drama about the race of the prince.

It appears that while the rest of the cast is black, Prince Naveen from Maldonia is not. And it is causing a commotion of sorts. Critics say the the Prince, voiced by a Brazilian actor, is "a cop-out," and "an implication that black love isn't good enough." What do you think my avid readers? Is someone slipping something into the purple drank of these rabid consumers? Or do they have a point? I mean, Princess Tiana already seems t0 have some baby hair she needs to worry about, and now she can't find a good ole southern gentleman who just graduated from Morehouse? Or is Naveen just light-skined-ed? Or maybe he is just Naveen from the Block- use to have a little now he got alot. Or maybe this is a sincere representation of the times. Or of America today...
Thoughts? Opinions?
I think Prince Naveen looks like a young Rick Fox.
