YELLOW DYNO: PEDO HUNTER.

YELLOW DINO: PEDO HUNTER from Everything Is Terrible! on Vimeo.

Ummmm, this PSA is perhaps the best thing I have ever seen. A yellow dinosaur that not only tells us about the harms of people like pedophile Reginald Charming but shows us how to handle them.

I would love to have the printed script to this. "I'm talking to you lizard. Do you hear me!!!"

Taking it back...for realz. No Diggity.

Remember back when you thought you could sing. And you had the aspiration of either being a professional singer in an all boys group....or a professional tennis player? No? Ok, maybe that was just me.

Let's get in.

Just a few hits from the 90's catalogue of Blackstreet. Damn I love Throwback Thursday. I think I hit every aspect of Blackstreet, no? That Girlfriend/Boyfriend song use to be my joint.

Enjoy R&B at it's hieght.

Hump Day: Where the Party At.

When R&B was at the top of it's game. Enjoy. Only a few more days to go.

Monica. Everything to Me.

Monica (yep I'm talking about monica on this blog) just dropped a new single that samples a very well known song from the 80's that my momma use to play on repeat.

Deniece Williams. Silly.

vs.

Monica.

No normally, I would ask...who did it better. But it's not that type of blog post. I want to chronicle Monica's career for a second or two. Remember the early 90's? Blissful, right? Remember the first album, Miss Thang. Yeah...I owned it. I use to crank the song "Angel" on full blast and sing out loud like I was a girl. Dont Take it Personal was the epitome of how hip-hop/r&b was made in the 90's. Monica was young. The song's weren't deep...cause she hadn't experienced life yet. But she could sing.

Then she got classy (and sexy) in the late 90's. She was dropping tracks like Angel of Mine and Street Symphony. Remember when she completely out sang Brandy on her own track? Monica is a true and talented singer. Then...she kinda disappeared from the mainstream. She had a few club songs. But she kinda fell into the underground circuit of R&B singers, singing to a niche. Sure, I heard a person here and there who would promote her new album, so I knew she was still around. But everything I heard from her all sounded the same. With an array of weaves and "I'm going clubbing shirts", she let the world know she was a southern girl (and a little hood at that). Then she dropped that sh*t with Keiysha Cole. And to that, I say "Hell Naw." I mean....Keiysha Cole hasn't made a memorable track since her debut song "Love" (in my opinion) and I'm pretty sure that was a fluke. So that collabo was a real bust, as well as the song.

And here we are today. She is making music like the video above. And it's brilliant. The song is well put together. She sounds great. She look's hot (giant side weave and all). Not to sure about the stalker themed video, but overall Welcome Back Monica *finger crossed* for your new album. And I just wanted to write a throwback blog post about Monica. Now we patiently await the return of Brandy.

That is all.

This is Me....posting this.

How fun! I'm pretty sure that this game alone can cure racism.
Thank you Throwback Thursday!

Rollin with the Homies. Brittany Murphy.

Clueless memoriam for Brit Murphy. Too young....

If I ever Fall In Love.

It's been a heavy video week. Hmmmm, anyway 2 points with this weeks Throwback Thursday.

1. Anyone alive in the 90's who could hold a note, was trying to sing this song. Am I lying? I remember in highschool, I put together this shoddy group and we used to practise all the group love songs with dreams of making it big one day. We sounded good. But alas here I am in 2009....not a professioinal singer.

2. On another note, Throwback Thursday wants you to turn this tune on at home. Guys, sing it to your special someone tonight...even if you can't sing. Results are highly successful (studies have shown). I promise.

Pretty Wings. Maxwell.

HOLY SH*T Maxwell is back. I'm sorry, but this dude was the slow jam master of the 90's. I had my first real make-out shesh to one of his songs. So...I'm a bit overly excited. I will be playing this on repeat tonight when I get home, rocking slowly and thinking about love.

Let his reign continue....

Someone Missed the Bus.

Somewhere in Atlanta (apparently the legal resting place for 90s black artists in general) former Kris Kross member Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly was spotted just chillin at some park. I remember as a kid helping my step sister cut Kriss Kross posters out of magazines and applying them to the wall with the greatest of admiration. He has Alopecia which is why he is balding. So we cant laugh at that. However, we can laugh at the fact that my man still wears his pants backwards. Go hard or go home, i guess....

Come on...lets go back in time.....

Blaxploitation.

I haven't done a true Throwback Thursday in awhile. Today I bring back to light one of my favorite movies back in the early 90's . I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. Directed by and starring Keenen Ivory Wayans, it was a parody of blaxploitation films (took that straight from wiki).

Anyway, as a kid...I remember it being mildly entertaining. But it was not until my sick day earlier this week, that I realized that I actually had no idea what was going on. Now as a "grown up," I have a new appreciation for the movie.

"Capitalism Swine and bean soda..."

"Can I just get one rib."- this was back when Chris Rock was still funny. Waaaayyy back.

Fly Guy- "My Bitch betta have my money."

Fish Tank Platform shoes.

If you haven't seen it, do yourself a life favor and go buy it. It's a classic. And it's funny as all hell.  And if you don't find it funny...you are a socialist. Fact.

Enjoy.

virtual ad space. obama vs. mccain.

so, on the hoopla surrounding the Obama ads in video games: i think it is a little silly. Innovative? Yes. Does it deserve the media placement award of the year? Perhaps. But is it relevant? Ehhhh...video game addiction is a tough opponent. I don't think the placement carries any more value than hearing their favorite song as they kill a cop and steal his car. It's just part of the game-their own world of shallow perceptions.

Whats more exciting I think, is the ad space McCain took out in response:

ok, they are fake....but come on, if McCain did try the same stunt, these would be the games he'd be keen to. Cause...you know.... he is all old and stuff. More executions here. McCain is so "the cartridge game that you have to blow before it works properly."

*side note- i was really good at Duck Hunt and i miss it greatly.

true blood.

Great opening credits to HBO's new show Trueblood.

On the show itself...well, its a far cry from the old Vampire flicks that we are all use to. There's an interesting spin as the show is about the assimilation of Vampires into a human dominated world.
I don't have very much else to say about it. It's no WB's Buffy the Vampire Slayer...but still, this is some bad ass opening credits.

9.03.2008

NKOTB ft NeYo. Single.

this is embarassing for all parties involved.

great-full of life.

my good friend  (like in real life) Maya over at Smart Aches recently wrote a post that made me ponder.  In admitting  her love for Ted Kennedy via his speech at the DNC a few nights ago on the  verge of tears she was able to dig deep down inside and find appreciation for the life that she has lived so far...the things she's been lucky enough to see and experience- something I don't think we do enough of in our forward thinking culture. And this....made me my mind churn (well, that and she literally asked for her readers to list some of the defining and most appreciative times of their lives.

So I pose the same question to you....in her eloquent and potent words....

What part of our times are you grateful for?
What makes you think, "holy shit, I got to live through that. I get to be the old person that talks about that bad ass moment."

My list thus far includes:

1- Michael Jackson
Its scary to think that in a decade or two, the youth of the world will not know who Michael Jackson is. They will not know his creative genius or god given talent first hand. And I am proud to say that I lived though his ups and downs and would still sell my kidney for a ticket to one of his concerts.....

2- Obama
this is a given. Whether he wins or not, the fact that the theoretical national term "equality" is for the first time living up to its "intended" merit makes me proud to be an American.

3- Darkwing Duck
this is a metaphor for all of the cartoons from the early 90s. They made kids wonder and imagine. And then they taught us a lessons. Forget the hidden puns, blatant stupidity and plots intertwined in deep-ness. This is a duck. He talks and fights crimes. Deal with it....

4- The Cosby Show
while I luv myself some Fresh Prince, Family Matters, The Nanny, Blossom, Clarissa Explains it AllStep by Step, Full House, Living Single etc, the cosby show is on an entirely different level. It is not of the present- there are no ridiculous Colin Farrell (the man child) moments or kooky Super Bad plots. The Cosby Show is a type of raw and intuitive funny that will last forever...and based on a single and real situation: Family. And that is some simplistic powerful groundwork of humor that no other show has since been able to re-create.

5- Goose Down Jackets
they were big. they were puffy. they were colorful. they were the late 90s. I picture myself as a old man talking to my non-twin grand kids "Back in the day we didn't have that gortex stuff...we had to walk around with real animal feathers in our jackets...it was a time of struggle." And they will look on me in awe.

....I plan on having more.
(Maya...you post yours. And the rest of you...you have to be appreciative of something).

i will follow him.

you can thank sunday tv for this gem.

Blast from the past no? And dont even get me started on Sister Act 2.

Banks grows up.

You had to know this was coming. There is only so much time that one can try to regularly create throwback blog posts reminiscent of the better times. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

This show is partially responsible for who I am today, an its influence on culture cannot be argued. I have never met a person who did not know the lyrics to the opening song, and/or sang it on a yellow school bus on the way to a class field trip simultaneously harassing as many trucks as possible with the obnoxious yet rigorous "air pull" performed to force a honk. The result...ecstatic joy.

But this...my friends, is not a blog solely about the show. Its about a single character. And its not Will Smith, he gets way too much press on his own (he doesn't need my blog to hype him up). Its about the adorable co-co-star, Tatyana Ali. " ASHLEY BANKS. Actress" and "singer," she is back on the scene with a new show. Dont ask me what the show is called....but what I do know about, is the hot new spread of the upcoming issue of King magazine and the sexy spread she is in....

I guess this Throwback Thursday is more for me.....

But, for all of our recollection. I classically think of her as looking like this. But she is also known for this little piece of magic that I may or may not have had the double sided cassette tape to in the early 90s
.
yea...that's the 90s alright. lol

Ok, im off....

PS Ali went to Harvard (the rich man's community college where everyone graduates with honors). As a Boston collegiate alum myself, I heard through a friend of a friend that she was a big weed head in college. Like never went to class, but smoked all day weed head--as if there are any other type...lol. Just thought I'd share.

I admit it...I missed Throwback Thursday. You must forgive...I have a new job. Infact, I just worked up the balls to blog at work. Ill tell you about it later...if your lucky.

In the meantime...here is some timely material. Dancing cartoon cat. Paula Abdul. Party anyone?

Candy Coded Rain Drops.

Throwback Thursday brings you one of the fliest videos of the 90s.

candy rain -

I loved this song. Besides Boys 2 Men, this is one of the first songs I knew all the words to. I also may...or may not have known the choreography as well. I sang it at my graduation in 6th grade. Why? Because Im a super star.
